Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine

Book #10 Read in 2018
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

Eleanor is a quirky, socially awkward woman at the beginning of the book, with a scarred face and a lonely life.  As the book progresses, readers will realize that there is more to Eleanor than meets the eye.  Eleanor struggles with bad stuff from her past, fitting in with co-workers and trying to find her happy ever after.  By the end of the book, readers will be rooting for Eleanor and her happiness.

Little & Lion

Book #9 Read in 2018
Little & Lion by Brandy Colbert

I loved this book.  There are so many timely topics in this book--mental illness, search for sexual identity, family dynamics etc.  It is a blend of romance and drama.  The characters are engaging and readers will care about them.  I am highly recommending this to high school readers and faculty/staff.

Fathomless

Book #8 Read in 2018
Fathomless by Jackson Pearce

This is a take on the little mermaid.  Celia meets Nadia who is a girl who has become a mermaid, Lo.  Nadia is struggling to maintain human memories.  Lo is trying to not become a monster who will kill humans.  This telling is a bit creepier than the Disney version, and for that alone, I think high schoolers will enjoy it.  It has mystery, fantasy and romance elements.

How Full is Your Bucket

Book #7 Read in 2018
How Full is Your Bucket? by Tom Rath and Donald O. Clifton

This book was given to faculty by our new principal and talks of the effects of positive and negative attitudes in the workplace.  Some of it was interesting.  It was a quick read and has a pretty good summary/mini-book in the back that could be handy for quick reference.

Year One

Book #6 Read in 2018
Year One by Nora Roberts

This is the first in a new series and is a mix of paranormal, dystopian, romance and action.  That makes it a book to recommend to a variety of readers.  I enjoyed it and will continue with this series.  A plague (called Doom) is killing people; some are immune.  The immune may or may not have magical powers.  There is a mix of good magic and dark magic.  This book has something for everyone!
