Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy: The Last Man in the World (4.5/5)

Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy: The Last Man in the World (4.5/5)

This is a variation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. It picks up as if Elizabeth says yes to Mr. Darcy's first proposal of marriage. Great writing and stays true to Austen's characters. I think this book fleshed out Darcy and Elizabeth a bit more.

Briar Rose (YA) (4.5/5)

Briar Rose (YA) (4.5/5)

This is a good holocaust book--set in Poland. A grandmother tells her granddaughters the story of Sleeping Beauty, though it's different than the traditional version. After her death, the family realizes they didn't know much about the grandmother at all. The youngest granddaughter, Becca, goes to Poland to try to figure out the true story of her grandmother's youth. This book could work for HS students and adults.

Club Dead (5/5)

Club Dead (5/5)

This is the 3rd book in the Sookie series. Bill is kidnapped and Sookie goes after him to try to save him. She has help from a werewolf, Eric and Bubba. Of course there are a lot of twists and turns. I enjoy this series and still like Eric better than Bill.

Rewriting Monday (4/5)

Rewriting Monday (4/5)

Pepper Malone heads to Texas to escape some bad memories. She gets a job working at a small town paper. This paper has apparently been targeted by some unknown crazy who is trying to shut it down. The editor, Mike, tries to figure out who is behind the threats. There is romantic tension between Pepper and Mike. This book is a good combination of romance and mystery.

Plum Spooky (5/5)

Plum Spooky (5/5)

A between the numbers novel in the Stephanie Plum series. A great read, as always. Diesel returns and he and Stephanie team up as usual. Lula is her usual subtle self and Carl the monkey returns. Not much Grandma in this one, which was a little sad as she cracks me up. I think this is my favorite series.

A Wedding to Die For (4.5/5)

A Wedding to Die For (4.5/5)

Second book in a cozy mystery series. Abby Rose is a PI specializing in adoptions. She is hired by Megan to find her biological mother in time for her wedding. Of course this isn't a simple case and the murders happen. Good twists and turns. Abby is a good heroine and I like her cat Diva. I will continue with this series.

The Sorceress (YA) (5/5)

The Sorceress (YA) (5/5)

This book is the third in the series. This series must be read in order; each book picks up exactly where the previous book left off. Josh and Sophie are twins with unknown magical powers, unknown until some Immortals find them. A lot of action and good twists and turns. Both HS boys and girls would enjoy this series. #4 comes out in a few months, I believe.

The Hour I First Believed (4/5)

The Hour I First Believed (4/5)

An emotionally draining, but good, read. Husband is a teacher, wife a school nurse at Columbine. He's back east for a death in the family when the school shootings happen; she's trapped in the thick of things in the school library. This devastating event changes their life forever. I kept saying to myself: "how many bad things can happen to these people?" and the book kept answering me. A chunkster at over 700 pages but worth it.
