Nights of Blood 2 (4.5/5)

Nights of Blood 2: More Legends of the Vampire

This is a collection of vampire short stories. These are well written and interesting and I'm not a big fan of short stories. While all the stories involve vampires, they are different enough to not get boring. Some have vampires who are children, some have vampire slayers after vampires, some have the conflict between werewolves and vampires. A good read.

Maggie napping

This is Maggie, my 1 year old Savannah cat. Savannahs are bred from African Servals. Maggie loves to curl up on a blanket on the back of the couch.

Leave Me Alone, I'm Reading (3.5/5)

Leave Me Alone, I'm Reading (3.5/5)

The author is a book reviewer for NPR. She was writing this book about the major roles books have played in her life. I wish it focused more on books though. She would start out the chapters talking about a certain genre but then it would begin to be more about her life and didn't really connect to the books or what they meant to her.

The Penny Pinchers Club (5/5)

The Penny Pinchers Club (5/5)

This is a little meatier than her usual chick lit but still a good summer read. Kat finds evidence that her husband, Griff, is leaving her once their daughter graduates high school. Kat needs to build a nest egg so she will be able to support herself when she's on her own. She joins a local frugality group and they support her emotionally and financially. Kat's ex-boyfriend, Liam, re enters her life and with him, money would not be an issue. A good, quick read.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (4/5)

Pride and Prejudice and Zombie (4/5)

Jane Austen meets Night of the Living Dead. Austen's text is interspersed with zombie killing scenes. The Bennet girls and Mr. Darcy are all zombie hunters. Good, tongue-in-cheek humor. A little slow at times (how many zombie killings can one book need?) but overall a fun read. I can see why some schools are putting this on their required summer reading list for HS students before studying Austen's book during the school year. This is definitely more accessible.

Dog on It (5/5)

Dog on It (5/5)

The first in a mystery series revolving around a detective agency made up of Bernie and his dog Chet. Chet is the narrator of the story and this book deals with a missing persons case that the pair is trying to solve. There is a lot of action and mystery in this book. I loved the voice in it--great writing of Chet telling the story. This book also has humor in it and a hint of romance. I will continue with this series.

Lady Macbeth (4/5)

Lady Macbeth (4/5)

When I requested this from the library, I thought this was about Lady Macbeth from Shakespeare's play. It was but it wasn't. I'll explain. Yes, this book was about that Lady Macbeth but was more based in historical records than Shakespeare's dramatic flair. This book told the tale of how Macbeth became King of Scotland, how he and Lady Macbeth came to be wed and she was a heck of a lot more saner in this book. It was interesting to have this back story fleshed out a little more. Good writing style inthis book.

Chef Boo

This is Boo, our blue point Ragdoll, surveying the kitchen happenings from the corner of the counter. His eyes are glowing with love of food, I'm sure.

Homer's Odyssey (5/5)

Homer's Odyssey (5/5)

Gwen gets a call from her vet to see if she wants to adopt a kitten who is not only blind, but eyeless. Gwen says she has to see him first. Needless to say, she adopts him and bring Homer (named after the blind epic poet) home with her. This book tells the tale of Homer's bravery and courage and how quickly he adapts to not being able to see. Homer is a great kitty. He can catch flies in mid-air, he can chase off burglars and he can find the tuna fish cans amidst all sorts of canned goods. This book is a must read for all cat lovers! I loved it!

Would Be Witch (5/5)

Would Be Witch (5/5)

The first in a cute, new paranormal series. Tammy Jo comes from a family of witches but she doesn't have much magical power of her own, until now. She is searching for a stolen family locket which houses the family ghost, Edie. Tammy Jo begins to cast some spells with varying results. There is romantic angst with Zach, her ex-husband, and Bryn, a wizard/lawyer. I loved her sidekick Mercutio, an Ocelot kitten. As an owner of a Savannah cat, I could see my Maggie doing some attack cat moves. This book was fun; it had action, mystery, romance and a cat sidekick. For paranormal fans it offered witches, werewolves, vampires and ghosts. I have already ordered book #2.
